Childrens' Services

At Athena we offer comprehensive treatment services which focus on helping your child achieve his or her maximum potential. We have a competent and professional staff of Psychologists, Counselors, and Psychiatrists, with years of experience in dealing with complex family issues. Services are provided in a safe and confidential atmosphere and the most reassuring part of your experience is knowing that you are getting help for your child and your family.

Counseling
Athena has supportive well-trained counselors who specialize in parenting issues and therapy that is geared toward children, as well as parents. We will help your family cope with complex family issues of depression, anxiety, behavior problems, divorce or abuse.

Academic and Psychological Testing
Academic and Psychological testing are often necessary when your child is struggling in the school environment. Poor academic performance and behavioral problems can be caused by a wide range of things including depression, unusually high or low abilities, attention problems, differing social development, and undiagnosed medical conditions. Testing can help diagnose the problem so that it can be treated or more aptly dealt with in the classroom environment. Additionally, treatments and interventions can be focused to enhance your child's particular strengths and improve any areas of weakness.

Pet Therapy and Play Therapy
Athena has a specially trained dog named Whittan who helps children feel at home while at our offices. He helps children learn appropriate play interactions and how to regulate their own level of stimulation. Like most dogs he gets excited and wound up when others around him behave that way, but as the child learns to calm and control their behaviors, Whittan joins in sitting by them and showing affection.

At Athena, we also have a monitored play therapy room, with video surveillance. It is equipped with a host of appropriate toys and game to be used in therapy. This allows children to have their own space and a unique experience. Children are also encouraged to bring non video based games with them to their on-going appointments.

Career Testing
Career testing can help your teenage child prepare for a promising future. This type of testing helps your child find a career which matches his/her interests and talents. It also helps them understand exactly what it takes to reach their goals and what to expect from their aspirations.
